Facilitator Bios:
Elisha Lim is the author of comic strips like 100 Butches and Sissy. Lim has exhibited art and videos internationally, including the debut solo of Toronto’s Feminist Art Gallery. They have been awarded grants by the Canada Arts Council, Ontario Arts Council and Quebec Arts Council and have juried art grants in Canada and the States. They have lectured on race representation and gender neutral pronouns on panels, artist talks and United Nations conferences since 2009, and directed Montréal’s first Racialized Pride Week in 2012, for which they curated the central exhibit “2-Qtpoc” at the gallery articule. They are currently working on two projects: a graphic novel called 100 Crushes and a zine about queer prayers.
Kit Wilson-Yang is a mixed race trans woman who makes art and space. Recently she ran a workshops series with trans youth at the Sherbourne Health Centre called Super Trans Powers, a series of art workshops that created an eclectic zine of stories and art by trans youth. She makes zines and writes stories and music.

As the whole world watched the trial of George Zimmerman, anti-racists activists have long pointed out that Trayvon Martin’s death is only one among the many extrajudicial killings of unarmed Blacks in the US. For this session of Radical Reads, we will examine different media texts that offer discussions on the murder of Trayvon Martin and America’s long history of racial violence.
We aim to present different texts – videos, images and blog posts to allow us to explore questions such as: Does situating Trayvon Martin’s death in the context of vigilante justice offer us a more complex analysis of racial violence? What are the possibilities and limitations of the “We are ALL Trayvon” movement? How about the “We are NOT Travyon” movement? In light of the murder of Sammy Yatim, how we can we, as critical thinkers and activists, contribute a productive movement against state and/or racial violence?

ABOUT THE DR. CHUN RESOURCE LIBRARY:
The Dr. Chun Resource library is a space for community members and University of Toronto students to access factual, critical, and alternative materials that facilitate resistance to oppression among and between diverse communities. In particular the library is committed to collecting materials that reflect the local voices of our community, and the voices of those who have been marginalized and oppressed in our daily lives and in political mobilizing.
Beyond the Binary is a group for people who fit outside the gender binary of MTF/male to female, FTM/female to male, or cisgender; for people who may identify as as genderqueer, gender-varient or gender non-conforming.
We meet once a month. Meetings are currently on the first Wednesday of the month, from 5PM to 7PM.

To celebrate International Women’s Day and the ongoing resistance to women’s oppression worldwide, the Dr. Chun Resource Library is hosting Literary Liaisons!
Bring your favourite anti-colonial feminist lit and share why you love it while getting to learn about other cool titles you may not have heard of! All forms of literature are welcome- fiction, non-fiction, poetry, comics, zines, you name it! Feel free to bring multiple items!
The event will follow a “speed dating”* format- we will be chatting in pairs and rotating after several minutes so everyone gets a chance to meet and talk!
*Unlike actual speed dating, there are no romantic implications here and no pressure! We simply hope to create a relaxed, inclusive space for sharing, discussion, and hanging out together.
