RADICAL READS FILM SCREENING (note date change)

RADICAL READS FILM SCREENING (note date change)

The April edition of Radical Reads will feature a FREE SCREENING of “Nalini by Day, Nancy by Night”

Nalini by Day, Nancy by Night depicts filmmaker Sonali Gulati’s personal journey into the world of India’s call centers.  When we think of transnationalism and globalization, do we picture an uncomplicated flow of people, ideas, and money? Gulati’s film aims to probe this conceptualization of transnationalism when she explores both the global and local effects of outsourcing telemarketing jobs to India. Why, for instance, do workers in India adopt American names and accents?

Afterwards, we will use Gulati’s film as a springboard for discussing the effects of globalization, capitalism, transnationalism, and diaspora on identity. We’ll make optional reading materials available to facilitate our discussion.
