The Work-Study Program provides opportunity for eligible University of Toronto students (undergraduate, graduate or professional faculty students) to be employed part-time on-campus during the Fall and Winter terms (until March 4, 2011).

YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA IN ORDER TO APPLY:

Who is eligible for Work-Study?

Students are eligible to participate in Work-Study if they have:

1. Applied and qualified for 2010-2011 OSAP assistance as a resident of Ontario, OR applied and qualified for student financial aid from a province other than Ontario (proof required), OR received a 2010-2011 UTAPS letter confirming their eligibility for Work-Study

AND

2. Registered in at least 60%* of a full course load for the 2010-2011 academic year (*40% for students with permanent disabilities). Students who do not meet these criteria may be considered if they are able to demonstrate financial need to the satisfaction of Admissions and Awards (not The Centre for Women and Trans People).

Students registered in Toronto School of Theology programs are ineligible to participate in the Work-Study Program.

I meet these criteria. What do I do next?

Students should complete and submit a Declaration of Eligibility/Hiring form. This form is also available for pick-up at Admissions and Awards, Career Centre, College/Faculty Registrar’s Offices or any potential Work-Study employers. This form enables students to declare themselves eligible (as stipulated above) and to visit directly to the Career Centre website to review the job listings and to apply for positions of interest.

Can Work-Study income affect my OSAP award?

Yes, it’s possible. Currently OSAP policy states that a student may have an average income of $50 per week during the study period. A higher income could reduce student’s OSAP entitlement or result in an overpayment affecting future assistance. Actual effect depends on factors such as how much OSAP funding student is receiving and whether there are other study period income(s) in addition to Work-Study income. Students concerned about this policy and its effect on their OSAP award should contact Admissions and Awards directly, (416) 978-2190 for further advice.

HOW TO APPLY:

All applications must be accompanied by a one-page personal statement on “Community organizing and working through oppression and privilege.” This statement is intended to give the Hiring Committee a bit of an idea of your understanding of community organizing, the work you’ve done and how you understand yourself in that work.
